6 Eryri Orienteers travelled down to Bristol for the British Sprint Orienteering championships last weekend. First up on the Saturday was the mixed relay, held at the University of Bristol North Campus, where the team of Sheryl Confue, Michael Corrales, Mike Snell and Emma Roberts all had clean, strong runs to bring Eryri home in 27th place overall – great job!

Next up on Sunday was the individual championships held at the University of the West of England Frenchay Campus – an interesting area with lots of route choice and passageways through buildings to contend with. The event consisted of a qualification round in the morning, and finals in the afternoon. Ian Jones qualified for the “B” Final in the M55 category, finishing 5th which is a great effort considering it’s only a week since his valiant effort at the Paddy Buckley round! Mike Snell (M70), Michael Corrales (M35) and Matthew Fortes (M50) all qualified for the “A” finals. Mike Snell had a solid run finishing in 12th position. Michael Corrales was running well and in contention for a podium position but unfortunately got caught out by the map flip and so was not given a time – I’m sure he’ll be back next year contending for a top 3. Matthew Fortes had a clean strong run and managed to get on the podium finishing in 2nd place winning the silver medal. A great weekend of orienteering – thanks all for travelling down to Bristol and well done!
